She's Got a Ticket to Ride!

We had a blast at Disney World! About an hour after we arrived, a giant tropical depression crushed my character hunting plan, but it didn't dampen our spirits. I have a bunch of pictures to share, but I'll try to group them into themes as I post them.

Today's theme is Disney rides. They were AWESOME! The whole ride experience, from the props in the waiting lines, to the ride operators' scripts, was amazing. I was totally impressed. I highly recommend all of them, although, the Dinosaur ride is a bit scary for the littles, as you will see below.

A few of the indoor rides have cameras to take your picture while you're on the ride. These are some of those. Our travel companion's friend gave us hints as to where the cameras were hidden within the ride, so we had some fun with them. Enjoy!

This fabulous ride, Expedition Everest, is in the Animal Kingdom and not to be missed! The pre-ride area is in the Yeti Museum which has all kinds of artifacts from Yeti sightings. It's really cool. The ride is so fast, that you can forget to look around, but try to. Disney's ride tunnels are so beautifully designed that you don't want to miss anything!

Dinosaur, also in Animal Kingdom, is just like riding through the scariest scenes in Jurassic Park. There are tons of animatronic dinosaurs lurking about and plenty of darkness to keep your heart racing. This picture makes me happy and a bit sad at the same time. Note the family in the middle, these two little boys were TERRIFIED! I felt so bad for them and didn't actually realize it until the end of the ride when we purchased our ride picture. I would be scared too if my dad was eaten by a big meanie green dinosaur like theirs was.

This last picture is from the Buzz Lightyear ride in the Magic Kingdom. It's more of a game/ride than a thrill ride. You sit in little cars that twist and turn as they travel through a maze of space scenes. There are two ray guns in the car that you can use to shoot targets and rack up space ranger points. At the end of the ride, you can look up your score on a tally board to see if you are a lowly Star Cadet, a tubular Galactic Hero or one of the ranks between. Very fun.

Disney Mini First Aid Kit

This is a cute and useful little project you can do with your kids in preparation of your Disney trip!


Keeping a first aid kit in your tote will make it so much easier to take care of minor booboos while you're enjoying the theme parks. With your own stash, you can avoid dragging everyone along on a trip to the first aid station to get one Band Aid. Walgreens sells these cute Johnson & Johnson First Aid kits for $1.99. I chose them because they are small and easy to tuck into a purse and they are so inexpensive that I probably wouldn't be able to put one together for that little cost. They have a few different sizes of Band Aids, a couple alcohol pads and gauze. I traded out the Band Aids for some cute Disney ones.



It's always a good idea to take prescription medications in a carry-on bag instead of packing them and checking them in. You wouldn't want to be without meds on your trip if your luggage is lost. You can easily replace your toothbrush and shampoo at a nearby convenience store, but not your medications. And, it's important to take only enough meds for each day of your trip with you in your purse or bag and keep the pill bottles in your hotel room, preferably in your room safe box. I found these cute little Ziplock-type pill pouches at the drugstore that are just perfect for that very purpose. They are only $2.99 and there are 50 baggies in a pack. You can put each day's pills in a pouch and mark the outside with PM or AM. There is also a spot on each one to write a name. That makes it easy to keep track of your kids' medications every day. If you don't find these handy little bags, you can use the snack size Ziplock baggies and write on them with a Sharpie. But, these pouches are awesome because they fit perfectly in your first aid kit. I added enough of the little pill pouches to the First Aid kits for the entire week (2 for each day, one for AM, one for PM.)



Of course, I couldn't leave the little kits nekkid.  (It is Disney, after all.) Everything is more fun with a little embellishment! So, I used some Disney and letter stickers to decorate them, then sealed them with a piece of self-adhesive laminating sheet. Click on the photos to enlarge.


Here's another cute idea: Buy a Disney coloring book and scan in a page, then shrink down the image to fit the front of the kit-- about 2 1/5"x 3". Let each child color their own little drawing, then, glue it down, add your child's name with letter stickers and lastly, cover it with a piece of laminating sheet.

So there ya go. With all these little goodies that I'm making for our trip, you'd think I had kids! Have fun on your trip and...

Disney Travel Tote

In preparations for our Disney World trip, I decided to make Disney travel totes for my friend and myself. They will be great carry-on bags as well as Disney park-hopping carry-alls!


So, first I bought a couple Totally You medium size canvas totes at Michael's to decorate. You can also find them at Joann or on CraftsEtc.com. They are under $5. I bought the natural canvas ones, but they also carry different colors as well as really cute denim ones.

Next, I bought some Disney embroidered appliques, dimensional fabric paint, black and red ribbons and Mickey-shaped buttons to decorate the bags. I wrote our names in the fabric paint and added some cute doodles among the buttons and bows which I attached with E6000.

Disney Scrappin'

I really hope I'll have the chance to meet Alice on our visit to Wonderland. I love her little pinafore dress!

I created this spread with the EK Success Alice dimensional sticker set. I love the little thataway sign and the potion bottle. I was really excited when I found the blue argyle ribbon in the dollar bin at Michael's. I thought Alice was more of a "pearls girl" than bling, so I used pearl embellishments to accent the stickers.

Quick note: I cut the Alice in Wonderland sticker apart and used the "wonderland" part alone on page 2, and mounted the "Alice" part on a page of white paper with little pink dots. I like headlines to be mounted onto another paper and trimmed.

Disney Scrappin'

Here is my red, black and yellow Mickey spread. I love how the different ribbon patterns go together. I found this cute set of red ribbons and pulled some polka dot ribbons out of my ribbon drawer. When I'm starting a page, it looks pretty dull and I think "yuck, maybe I should start over." But, I stick it out and keep adding embellishments and before too long, it comes out great! The more embellishments the better.

Along with the pretty ribbon, I used these brads and Mickey dimensional stickers.

Disney Scrappin'

I’m usually not into scrapbooking. I like very simple albums without sleeves, just mounted photos. But, since we’re going to Disney World and I definitely want an album of the trip, I decided scrapbooking was in order. I mean, you just can’t fill a leather-bound album with pictures of Mickey and Cinderella without adding a few doodads—or a bunch! Disney just screams “scrapbook me!” Don’t you think?

I bought this cute 8"x8" red album (click on photo to see online) to turn into a Disney World scrapbook. Now, I just couldn’t let it sit there in its Michael’s bag until after the trip, could I? So, I gave into its taunting and started making pages. I decided to make pages with frames to put my pictures in later. Then, if I decide I need more after the trip, I can make more. It’s fun and it keeps my mind off the fact that I have to wait 87 more days to start making my Magical Memories. I just can’t keep still with visions of Mickey-shaped balloons dancing in my head. I tell you, I’m dying over here!

This is my first Minnie spread. I think the pinks and greens will be perfect for pictures of Minnie’s Country House. I used some pretty papers, ribbon, rhinestones, brads, bubble letters and a Minnie dimensional sticker. What do you think?

Minnie, I'm Comin'!

Thanks to everyone who voted for my cookie, "Snowball Greetings from the North Pole." I won second place for my week! My prize is the Wilton Ultimate Tool Caddy and a 53-piece cake decorating set! Two new items that I didn't have before. Woo hoo!


My photo should be up on the winners page in a week. At the end of the contest, which is around Christmas, the Wilton people will choose one cookie of the 18 finalists to receive the Grand Prize, a trip for 4 to Disney World. Wish me luck!

Disney or Bust!

Hello, chickadees! I entered a cookie in the 2008 Cookie Decorating Contest sponsored by Wilton. Grand Prize is a trip to Disney World, and mama needs a new pair of Mickey ears!

My cookie is called "Snowball Greetings from the North Pole" and per contest rules, the entire piece is edible; although, it's been sitting around several days, so eating it is probably not the best idea anymore! In case you're wondering, I made a large cookie for the tree skirt and used an inverted ice cream cone for the tree. All the decorations were created with fondant.
